Welcome Outside the Crease
August 19th, 2008 by outsidethecreaseMy earliest memory of hockey comes from an old grainy picture of me holding a hockey stick before I could even stand up. Growing up in Southern Ontario hockey has been a part of my family for generations.
Raised by an Islanders following father and a Habs crazed mother, with a grandfather obsessed with the OHL, my experience with the game I love comes from many different angles.
After joining organized hockey at the earliest possible age, I was thrown into the net as a last resort for the rep team my father coached at the age of 7 and haven’t taken off the pads since. We all know the “goalies are a different breed” stereotype, and to be perfectly honest, there is something there. Brodeur, Roy, Sawchuck, the best personalities in the game always come from the masked men willing to stand in front of a hard piece of rubber traveling 100 mph. We have a different take on hockey, a different take on life and I hope this will be a different take on the traditional hockey blog. Don’t look here for the “who is going to the next GM of the Leafs” news or the “is Marian Gaborik going to be traded before the deadline” updates. This will be a blog on the lesser covered stories, the interesting and fascinating tales going on in the NHL and around the world of hockey.
